Recipe for Lightening and Brightening Summer Hair

by Juxta on June 4, 2012 | Posted in Answers & Advice, Hair Care

Bring out the sun and get ready to welcome the new season with sunny locks!  Emphasize those tresses with a brew of lemon, ginger and beer.

Lemon lightens hair -my brunette gets coppery, black tends red, and blond just gets blonder. Ginger spices up your scalp circulation and stimulates hair growth. Meanwhile, beer coats your hair and adds the body, bounce, and glimmer reminiscent of fields of waving grains.

Here’s my all-natural invigorating recipe to try at home:

Ingredients: 1 tbsp grated ginger, 1/2 of one lemon’s juice and 1 cup of beer – preferably flat.

Note: The skin of the lemon is even more concentrated, so if you are really looking to lighten your hair, blend the entire lemon half, including the skin.

Pour all the ingredients into a recycled ketchup or mustard bottle and douse your hair.  Mix thoroughly and then apply directly to the head, treating yourself to a relaxing scalp massage to distribute nutrients and rejuvenate tired follicles.

Rinse with cool water to close the cuticle and enhance the shine, and if you have to blow dry, point the air down from the root to the tip to further seal the cuticle.

Run a few drops of jojoba oil through the ends to further moisturize and provide a touch of texture.

Do this a few times and you’ll have summery locks in no time!

Thanks so much Gwen! We so appreciate hearing such supportive comments and feedback. Did you see Donna Sonkin’s article on the natural way to get collagen?
