As an internationally working makeup artist for over a decade, I’ve learned to pack just the right amount of beauty products along to ensure that I’m still taking excellent care of my skin and have plenty of options with me to create makeup and hair styles to look my best – even when jet lag, long work days, changing climates and lame food options are taking their toll!
Since people always seem to be curious about what’s in my green beauty travel bag, I thought I’d spill out everything I took with me for 10 days in New York City and share it with you here!
This is my Fashion Week Beauty Survival Kit — the very essentials of natural, organic personal care products I can’t live without. While there’s a lot listed, it didn’t take up that much room in my suitcase at all!
Take A Look At What’s In My Green Beauty Travel Bag
Fashion Week Survival is no joke. The hours are grueling and there’s a lot of stress swirling around in the chaos.
I combat the lack of sleep, little access to nutritious food and lots of adrenaline pumping, with vitamins and packing my own organic snacks, and I have to be equally diligent in taking care of my outer self with healthy products.
Natural Personal Care Essentials
Let’s start with the necessities for basic grooming that keeps me from making the NY subway system any stinkier than it already is!
Dr. Bronner’s Pure Castile Soap, Unscented for Babies
I find that Dr. Bronner’s can be a wee bit drying to my skin, so I purposely chose this scent-free, gentle formulation that is in the perfect sized bottle and is refillable! Buy it >
Soapwalla, Deodorant Cream Citrus
This cult deodorant earned a reputation as one of the very best natural deodorants on the market for good reason, and it’s in the perfect travel pot. Buy it >
Jason Toothpaste, Powersmile
I like to save the very last bit of my toothpaste tubes for travel. That way I have plenty to get me through the trip, but not a super heavy tube to lug around. They also make a travel size of the Sea Fresh version that I love too. Buy it >
Simplers Botanicals, Organic Lavender Oil
I always have a bottle of lavender oil with me because it come in so handy for a myriad of uses. I was on the plane out to NY and someone had some rather pungent stank going on, so I just wiped a few drops around my seat area to help mask the smell. I’ve offered it to moms with very fussy babies to calm them down on plane rides (win-win for everyone!). I use lavender oil as a way to destress in a bath if I have access to one on a trip. You can also mix it in with a plain body oil. The list goes on and on. I prefer this one because it’s made organically. Buy it >
Naturopathica, Arnica Muscle + Joint Gel
Whether it’s from being on long-haul flights, to dragging my suitcases around, to all the makeup I do (it’s a physically demanding job!), I have a love affair with arnica to help soothe my aching muscles. This one is awesome. Buy it >
Natural Skin Care Essentials
As our skin experts talked about in a recent article about skin care rules everyone should follow, it’s important to have a gentle cleanser, toner, and layers of moisturizers to protect skin when it’s exposed to dry and/or cold air (like those in airplanes and overly heated/air conditioned rooms).
Here are the natural skin care products I took with me that kept my face and body looking radiant. Every single one of these is a favorite!
Logona Natural Cosmetics, Cleansing Gel
Takes makeup off and cleanses skin with natural, organic ingredients without drying it out. What more do I need from one tube? Buy it >
Skin Owl, Eye Cream
Can I tell you about my puffy eyes and how this tiny little jar was a savior. With cooling cucumber, aloe and other fancy ingredients, it was just what this busy bee needed every morning after not quite enough sleep. Buy it>
Gemstone Organic, Clary Sage Hydrosol
Misting skin with a hydrosol helps it from being dry and dull. This is so important not just for flying, but going in and out of various climates. I was digging on this one by Gemstone Organic that has real gemstones floating around in it! Buy it >
Indie Lee, Squalane Facial Oil
Immediately after cleansing and toning, I’d put about 5 drops of Indie Lee’s awesome serum all over my face and neck to let it soak in for just couple of minutes. It feels like a silky dream! Buy it >
Bottega Organica, Overnight Renewal, French Lilac and Neroli
Then to add one more layer of moisture, I went straight to using this luxuriously rich night cream for the daytime. Yep! You can brake the rules and concoct your own mix of moisturizers that work for you. I tend to have easily cloggable pores, and while this was deeply hydrating, it did not cause any breakouts! Buy it>
Patrick Smith Botanicals, Orange Coconut Lip Balm
I like a creamy, deeply moisturizing lip balm day and night in the winter to avoid severely chapped lips and cracked corners of the mouth. I covet this and keep it in my purse and by my nightstand. Buy it >
CV Skinlabs, Restorative Skin Balm
When biting wind and dry heat are pushing their way towards my lips, I reach for this balm to add a serious layer of protection and it’s great to top any lip color for extra shine too. Buy it >
Organic Bath Co., RefreshMINT Body Oil
My jet-lagged self loves the help waking up after a shower by slipping on this organic, peppermint infused body oil. Soft skin and an aromatherapy boost – that’s the way to start the day! Buy it >
MyChelle Dermaceuticals, Exfoliators & Masks, Fruit Enzyme Scrub

Natural Hair Care Essentials
I’m pretty much a wash and go person. So I rely on amazing shampoo and conditioner to keep my shine and bounce. A salt spray to add oomph and texture to my waves, and a wax just to make sure the dry air doesn’t have me looking like a stand in for Albert Einstein! These were my simple picks:

Natural Makeup Essentials
You might be wondering why on earth I would take a separate makeup stash when I already have a huge kit of makeup to work out of every day.
Getting ready in the morning is too difficult if I have to search through the bags of cosmetics to find just one or two items I need.
So it’s a lot easier have a little bag of my own with items I can mix together to create new shades and textures for a large variety of looks.
