One of the highlights of the changing seasons has to be updating our wardrobe and beauty routine! Although, as a makeup artist, I’m not a big believer in following beauty trends – you should follow what looks and feels good, anytime of year. What’s great about fall are the rich colors, textures and of course temperatures, which definitely inspire creative expression.
The vibrant hues of seasonal foods like pomegranate, eggplant, greens and pumpkin are adorning eyes, lips and nails from the runways to the streets. Last time I visited the farmer’s market, I couldn’t help but notice the direct influence of nature’s palette in our fall makeup. It’s so refreshing to see yet another reminder of how much nature and beauty are connected.
The quickest way to transition your look plus green up your beauty routine, is to treat yourself to a new, non-toxic lip color. This season’s lips are all about deep, dramatic reds, auburns and purples. I’m always a fan of the bold lip because it’s so simple to apply, yet creates instant glamour and fun. You can wear these colors with full-on attitude, or keep it light with a sheer application over lip balm. Try Youngblood’s Kranberry or Vapour Organics in Torrid to do this fall pout proper.
Barely there: To pair with your new crimson lip, try a shimmery metallic from Josie Maran’s Beautiful Nudes as a highlight on the brow bone, or all over the eyelid.
Boldly there: Get into autumn’s look with harvest brights and luxe metallics like pewter and gold. This is a great time to try a colorful smoky eye, rather than the standard grays. Both Cedar and Aubergine Luminous Shimmer Eyeshadow by Alima Pure are playful and pretty worn alone, or edge it up with black eyeliner.
Here’s some good news, both of these looks will transition perfectly for the upcoming holidays too!
The skin for fall is a more “camera-ready” than carefree, so we look to incorporate more hydration and coverage. To keep skin supple as the temperature drops, be sure to get plenty of Omega 3’s from avocado and walnuts in your diet and add in nourishing oils for the skin like Olie Biologique.
To enhance your lovely canvas, try Jane Iredale’s “Glow Time” BB Cream. It’s a winning combo of skin care, sun protection and makeup that can be worn as sheer to full-coverage foundation.
Whether worn as a statement or paired down, fall’s makeup has sophisticated style and substance. Have fun experimenting with the trends and finding ways to make them your own!
