The new year is in full swing and with it, fresh starts of all kinds. Along with the many other things you may want to try or begin, a new makeup look is sure to be one of the simplest and most fun! Woohoo!
Did you wear the same shades throughout 2012 (and maybe even beyond)?
Well, 2013 is here and it’s a great time to get inspired and try something new. We all know how easy it can be to get stuck in a rut and wear the same colors and style of makeup over and over again. But what’s the fun of that, especially when there are so many gorgeous colors and finishes to choose from? Besides, buying new makeup can be a small investment with a big return … feeling beautiful!
You may already have some makeup ideas in mind of new looks you would like to try. If you’re drawing a blank, you can always look to your favorite fashion magazines and blogs to get some inspiration. Some of my go-to sites are Style.com and Harper’s Bazaar. Although spring may still be a couple of months away, there are a few trends from the Spring ’13 runways that can update your look, pronto! Check these out:
For example, if you opt for shimmer eyeshadow, try matte instead. If you normally wear a nude lip, try a bright color for a change. You can even experiment with different types of foundation. For years I thought I needed to wear a powder foundation because I have oily skin. Finally, I tried a water-based, liquid formula and was thrilled to find that it made my skin look even better and wore just as well throughout the day. You may be surprised how changing just one product can give you a fresh look!
Speaking of makeup and freshness, how do you know when to it’s time to toss what you’re using for a new tube? I recently spoke with eco-beauty expert Spirit Demerson, Founder of Spirit Beauty Lounge, about the “shelf life” of natural makeup and she offered some great insight. Spirit says:
Shelf-life actually refers to how long a product can sit unopened, and most cosmetic products have a shelf life over 30+ months which is why period-after-opening is more important.
Demerson also offers this helpful tip:
If you’ve lost the package and don’t remember how long you’ve been using something, to err on the side of caution we’d recommend using all products which contain water within nine months, and those which don’t, within 12 months.
There you have it. Out with the old and in with the new … makeup!
