You’ve probably used honey as a sweetener before, but this syrupy treat has incredible topical benefits for your skin. It’s is one of the best-kept skin care secrets in modern society that’s making a resurgence because it has been used for thousands of years to cure various aliments from acne to allergies.
If you want the benefits of honey, but have some hesitation about slathering this sticky, gold stuff straight onto your face, I’ve got good news! Wedderspoon Organic – currently the only brand of raw, non-GMO verified, organic manuka honey available in the U.S. – is adding to their manuka honey skin care products line! Yipee!
Fiona Nelson, the U.S. division President explained in our In the Spotlight interview why the brand decided to move into the skin care market.
Lucky for me, they sent their soaps, lip balms and the Face Contour Cream that recently re-launched as part of their Queen of the Hive brand. They don’t do animal testing, but you can consider these now human tested by me!
Queen of the Hive Face Contour Cream Review
Who would have ever thought that bee venom could be an effective face care remedy? I guess the folks at Wedderspoon Organic did when they created the Face Contour Cream and here’s why: Bee Venom essentially “fools” the skin into believing it has been stung, increasing blood flow to the area and stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, which is superb if you are looking for an anti-aging cream.
Being that it’s the heart of summer heat in humid NYC, and that I have combination skin, I used this cream at night as a treatment while my cells are doing their major repair work. In the morning my skin felt very smooth and like the cream was freshly applied. The consistency is thick, but not heavy. So it feels like a protective layer I’m adding to my face. There’s no color residue. The cream just instantly disappears into the skin. A teeny little bit goes a very long way on my skin. There is a faint scent of honey to the product, but it’s not overwhelming, which I prefer.
If you have especially dry skin or suffer from dryness during the winter months, this is a product that will probably work well to nourish and protect your skin all day too.
Organic Lip Balm with Manuka Honey and Peppermint Review
Again Wedderspoon Organic hit the mark by creating an organic lip balm with Manuka Honey and Peppermint that isn’t overwhelming on the scent scale. After the age of 16, I stopped appreciating sugary flavors in my lip balm, and this one has just enough peppermint to be pleasant.
I used this on myself and on photo shoots, which was great because it moisturized the lips well, thanks to the Manuka Honey Active 16+, without being shiny (an effect I don’t always want – especially for male models).
Typical of beeswax based lip balms it has a firm consistency without a heavy slick feeling. Of course this isn’t just any beeswax, this is manuka beeswax! There’s also organic Shea butter in the formula, which is known for being a natural SPF, making this lip balm a great way to protect your lips from getting a sunburn year-round.
You’d think all these organic, luscious ingredients would end up costing a fortune, but somehow they managed to price this at just $5! How can you say ‘no’ to that?
Manuka Honey Soap Review
Soap is one of those things I just feel like I keep warning people about constantly because the harmful chemicals in every traditional, store-bought soap (particularly sodium laureth sulfate, which creates all that foam) are just plain awful for skin.
So, there’s not a lot of foaming action in all-natural soaps. This is totally OK and actually a very good sign!
I’m not saying don’t use soap, but if you’re going to use soap, please pick one that is non-toxic, natural and actually nourishes, rather than strips your skin. <–Click to Tweet This
OK – I’m off my soapbox now (heh heh, I couldn’t resist the pun). Let’s talk about these all-natural soaps from Wedderspoon Organic.
Manuka Honey and Tea Tree Soap: A naturally anti-bacterial powerhouse of manuka honey and Australian tea tree oil. Unlike synthetic, chemically based anti-bacterial soap, this one won’t create an unhealthy resistance to bacteria. Goat’s milk and healing aloe vera keeps skin from feeling stripped of moisture. It now has a permanent place by my sink as my trusted “get rid of grimy germs” cleanser.
Manuka Honey and Oatmeal Soap: It just feels so good to use this soothing, softening bar of soap in the shower. Goat’s milk, organic Manuka 12+ honey and oatmeal sound like a delicious breakfast, but in this case it’s a soap you can use it in the shower to start the day and feed your skin. I have found this soap works particularly well for shaving since it creates a nice slick surface, hydrates the skin and helps soften the hair.
Both of these soaps are in rather large, generously sized blocks – perfect for a family. As a single person I have a feeling it’s going to take me a year to go through these, and that’s just fine with me!
