Turmeric the Age and Acne Fighter

Spices are miraculous.  Before we had cold hard cash, people actually used spices as currency.

They’re still valuable, yet in today’s hectic world we’ve lost sight of how important it is to incorporate them into our everyday diets.

Among the wide array of spices, turmeric is one of the most beneficial to your wellbeing.

Turmeric is particularly positive for your skin, especially if you suffer from acne.  It is a blood purifier as well as a significant anti-inflammatory.  What that means for you is that acne will be attacked in two ways by turmeric.

One, by helping your blood kill the bacteria that thrive inside a pimple and two, by reducing and eliminating the red, inflammatory properties of acne, which often is over 50% of the problem.

Dermatologists use injections on large pimples or cystic pimples for their patients.  Did you ever wonder what was in the injection?  It’s cortisone, an anti-inflammatory, because dermatologists know that if they can reduce the inflammation, the battle is more than half over.  Once the inflammation settles down, your body has an easier time destroying the bacteria that sparked the infection. The properties that benefit your skin are good for the body as a whole.

Turmeric aids the body in preventing infection, and the anti-inflammatory effects help allow you to age gracefully, since inflammation in the body is a precursor to aging.

Spices, like food, have medicinal properties.  In America, most people do not grow up learning to use a variety of spices in their cooking.  However, as our tastes mature and we become aware of other cuisines, our curiosity mixed with a natural yearning for authentic food becomes a key component to trying new and sometimes exotic ingredients.

The best way I found to incorporate turmeric into my diet was to create a ritual for myself.  Each evening before bedtime, try drinking a cup of warm, organic milk mixed with a teaspoon of dried turmeric.  The fresher the ingredients the better, so try to purchase your turmeric from a reliable spice store. If you don’t have a great spice store close to home, Kalustyan’s delivers throughout the U.S.

Please be patient as you cannot expect one week of a ritual to cause any serious relief.  It takes a good four to five weeks to begin seeing improvement.

Turmeric: it does a body good!
