It just feels good to buy from businesses that are doing positive things for humankind and the planet. Yet, I have heard many of you confess that while you love the idea of sustainable products, you wished they looked less ‘crunchy’. Oh yeah, I hear you! Design is important.
Products with thoughtful craftsmanship can touch us on an emotional level and serve a larger purpose than just another made-in-China thing that ends up in a landfill.
Finally! Ethical Shopping Done Right
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve surfed the web to buy something, wanting to make a thoughtful choice that matched my aesthetics and values, only to give up after feeling drained by searching through pages of products that missed the mark.
Well friends, I just discovered my new happy place: Decovo — an online marketplace aimed at satisfying a taste for beautiful design that fits within a sustainable lifestyle.
I found non-GMO soy candles made with essential oils, art prints, aromatherapy, handmade pottery, and cozy blankets that I wanted to put on every bed and chair I own. Plus a marble bottle opener I really didn’t know I needed until I saw it!
Just to give you a sense of the variety that Decovo has to offer, I put together a few collages by theme of some Eco Essentials that really grabbed my attention (all from women-owned brands it turned out!). Keep scrolling to see them all.

Unknown and Amazing Green Beauty Brands
When I popped on to see the green beauty brands Decovo sells, I expected to see a lot of “familiar faces” — but no!
Instead I scrolled through pages of what felt like a secret land of undiscovered treasures – and I wanted them all.
Artisanal beauty brands I’d never heard of — and some I’d barely heard of — had me fixated at the screen (you know for me to say that, something special is going on), with captivating, swoon-worthy packaging and ingredients I most definitely approve of.
Shopping with a Purpose: Supporting Women-Owned, Indie Brands
What blew me away is the artisan experience woven throughout Decovo and their focus on highlighting and supporting emerging brands. Over 90% of the brands featured on Decovo are women-owned (or co-owned) and every item for sale is ethically produced.
The co-founder of Decovo, Alison Cies, grew up surrounded by a family of artists. Her appreciation of design naturally flowed into her creation of a marketplace that had me adding (way too) many lovely things to my shopping cart.
Decovo sent me a few extraordinary products from their online boutique to try for a decadent evening of pampering.
Before slipping into a bath sprinkled with URB Apothecary’s Rose Salt Soak, I lit both cotton wicks of the Woodlot candle in the mild scent Flora to “bloom and inspire” my thoughts. Swirling my hands through the water, under the glow of candlelight, I felt like an Egyptian goddess in a bath of organic (!!) rose petals and healing sea water salts.
After steeping for long enough to feel like a total princess of relaxation, I boiled a pot of water and made a delicious cup of the “beautifying” Lady Godiva Tea from Restorative Rites – a smooth herbal elixir promising further healing of skin, hair and nails. I could drink buckets of this every day!
Then I tented myself under a towel with my face over a bowl of URB Apothecary’s Coconut Green Tea Facial Steam and allowed it to work its detoxifying magic. The mild scent of coconut, the vision of floating leaves and petals, transported me to a tropical land, which was very welcome even if just for 10 minutes.
I can’t say enough good things about how beautifully crafted each of these products are with organic, medicinal, herbal ingredients.
As I was drooling over the art-print pillow featured in the Ignite collage above, I read that its maker Anna Sofia Amezcua described her approach by saying, “In myself, in my work, in the world, I seek a more balanced expression of feminine and masculine, intuition and intellect, and a validation of the whole.”
Yeah, I think I found conscious shopping heaven.
As we continue to show the world through our purchases that we’re tired of mass-produced, made-in-China products, we’ve created the rise of a new production economy.
Make your voices heard every time you shop that this is the kind of economy that matters to you.
